Join us for a special evening celebrating the 80th birthday of bassist, composer, and Cincinnati jazz legend Jim Anderson. A 2019 inductee into the Cincinnati Jazz Hall of Fame, Jim has spent more than five decades performing, composing, educating, and supporting jazz throughout the region. For this milestone celebration, he brings together an extraordinary quintet for an evening of swinging, straight-ahead jazz at Caffè Vivace.

Jim Anderson

Bassist and composer Jim Anderson studied at Berklee College of Music and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. A co-founder of the Cohesion Jazz Ensemble and founder of the Semaj A. Consort, he has performed with artists including Benny Golson, Delfeayo Marsalis, and Jason Marsalis.

Bill Pierce

Tenor saxophonist Bill Pierce served as musical director of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers before joining the Tony Williams Quintet. He has performed and recorded with Freddie Hubbard, Max Roach, Hank Jones, and many others while building an internationally respected career as a performer and educator at Berklee College of Music.

Lewis Nash

Lewis Nash is one of the most recorded drummers in jazz, appearing on more than 600 albums, including 10 Grammy Award winners. His remarkable career includes work with Betty Carter, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, and countless other jazz greats.

Craig Bailey

Cincinnati-born saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Craig Bailey spent more than 15 years performing with Ray Charles and has also worked with Slide Hampton, Charlie Persip, Bobby Watson, and Panama Francis. An accomplished bandleader and recording artist, Bailey is known for his inventive voice on saxophone, flute, and clarinet.

Steve Allee

Pianist, composer, and arranger Steve Allee began his professional career with Buddy Rich at age 19. He has performed with artists including Slide Hampton, James Moody, Benny Golson, Randy Brecker, and Rufus Reid, while also earning wide recognition for his recordings, big-band writing, film scores, and work as an educator.

A $20 drink/food minimum is charged per person in the party, per set, if the total for beverages purchased by the party does not meet the minimum.
